Holidaze

Hey look, Christmas is coming, there's things to do, and I'm just gonna throw out a quick batch o' news and stuff today. And I might take tomorrow and the next day off. DEAD BLOG.

• I haven't ridden real trails ever, and the one time did go to Port Washington it took me all day just to jump the stepdown that started the line. Nevertheless, I can appreciate what Mark Noble is doing over at Deluxe. And despite the fact that they're releasing a seat/post combo, I still got love for those guys. Nice photo, Mark. I see you!

• JPR over at FBM has some more to say about the coming CPSC rules that should kick the prices of everything in the industry up just when we can all least afford it. 2009 is gonna be a tough year. I got an e-mail with some more specifics, but since I can't readily verify things (especially not now), I'm gonna leave it alone for now. Much more on this later, I'm sure. (Incidentally, you guys should send Take #666 to Nate Wessel. It's the right thing to do.)

• So Solid is releasing some new cranks that won't be listed properly on Dan's. They're not full-wrap on top or bottom, which is causing some consternation amongst the BMX cognoscenti (OK, just on various messageboards, but I really like the word 'cognoscenti'), but the original Solid cranks weren't wrapped either, and I don't recall anyone ever breaking those. I'm just stoked on the idea of a 22mm splined crank.

russ, the clamp is optional.

Someone on Bikeguide had bitchcranks like 3 months ago..

Also, the grub screw type thing is awesome. More companies should do that.

LEAD DOG B...

new rule for comments-they must either be in the form of a.)an anagram; 2.)a haiku; or iii.)a serious of questions that are thinly veiled innuendo.

robbostache.. how's this?

hey russ, when you buy both version of the new STA, which one is going under your bed next to the T1 Garret with integrated post: the lite wait STA or the 'classic' STA?

damn those crazy chinese businessmen. or was it the government? ehhhh. i better be quiet. they'll probably be our masters in 20 years.

Luckly im getting my Bloodwolf now so I wont have to deal with the high prices. That still pisses me off though. Has anyone EVER gotten lead posioning form a BMX bike? This is what we get for saying we ride kids bikes instead of calling them BMX bikes haha.

The Solid cranks have been around for at least 6 months, you can get them from http://www.anempiricaldesign.com/aed/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=17&products_id=196
and yes, they are badass, just not as badass as the original 15/16 spindle, pierced pedal boss, 64 oz. Solid Cranks, or the sweet Sharp 45t sprocket and sharp chain I had with them.

wow I just realized 2 pairs of the new Solid cranks w/ ti spindle AND the new deluxe seat would still weigh less than the original Solid cranks.

Dear companies,
Stop making cranks. Fly won.

All frames should come raw, so people cain paint them whatever colour they desire. And all frames should come with removable mounts.

This keeps production costs down, the cpsc crap away (no paint, no lead!) and prevents there being excess stock of one specificl model of frame.

Substrate materials are tested also, as in the metal under the paint. Basically it's not just paint, it amounts to just about every different material on the bike. It's not the end of the world, it's just a massive pain in the ass for idiots like me.

Hopefully prices won't be jacked up too much. It'd be nice if the vendors manufacturing the shit would pick up the whole testing tab, but they need money for German sports cars, booze and fine dining, whores for their sons and the daughters have to go to a private U.S. University.

Pretty fucking sweet life, actually.

Time to start up NC-17 Bikes.

The new STA...fuck, I can't decide whether I'm stoked or sad. It'll be the first post-Christmas post though.

I have a feeling my BMX, porn, cigarette, alcohol and fireworks store is about to take off!

And fly cranks guy, is that a joke? I've seen 3 people break Fly's JUST PEDALING, second to only Wombolts which I've seen break without anyone on the bike.

ditto on the fly cran snapping.
quadruple ditto on the wombolt snappng.

If the wombolts broke with no one on the bike, that would be the fault of the installer.

im not saying that i didnt break mine...

The revised Fly cranks seem fine. Still not buying 'em. Cranks are a one-strike deal.

And the not-really-revised Wombolts rely on the same ridiculous kludge that made the original ones the shittiest BMX part ever.

(Yes, worse than the Kastan half-a-fork. You could see that waiting to kill you.)

The hex spindle is a good idea, but not if the boss tolerances are so loose you have to soft-shim them all. That means the crank is a wrong-sized wrench that's far weaker than what it's being used to turn. It has to break.

"Mine haven't!"

You wait.

Shittiest BMX part ever? Please. Very far from it.

ya its almost christmas, lets all gt drunk and ride bikes!

the eclat cranks use a 22er...that's why sean burns rides for them...he says he hasn't broken em yet...

Unknown said...

garrett byrnes rides fly cranks. can't argue with that. everyone in the world should ride, t1, credence, and deluxe frames. and some fbm's and stuff

so the seat and post combo is a joke if you are fly or eclat but ok if you have emailed some one a few times and consider em buddies? come on, deluxe is a joke. the owner dont even ride.
