Black Sabbatical

Hey, sorry about yesterday.

But honestly, I think I just needed the break. Furthermore, I'm gonna take a few more days as well. This is not the end—heck, maybe I'll be back tomorrow—but I want to take a little time to re-group. Maybe I'll be re-energized by some of the dumb stuff that starts leaking out before Interbike (which I will not be attending for a record-breaking 37th straight year). In fact, I'm sure I will be. Right now I just don't have all that much to say.

A heartfelt thanks to all who read and comment on the regular, you're the ones who make SPRFLS, well, not entirely superfluous.

To amend, a lot of things have been seriously tripping me out lately (in no particular order: Sarah Palin, the Mets's shitty bullpen, David Foster Wallace's suicide, the return of the 2Hip Pork, the collapse or imminent collapse of damn near every major financial institution in the country), and...yeah. I just need to take five.

while I do miss the daily dose I can see it as a sign of sanity when a 37-year old once every so often doesn't feel he has to rant about the current trends in kids bikes. shalom my lehman brother

On the other hand, if you give up, the terrorists and adam22 wins. And fuck that guy. He is the Sarah Palin of the BMX blogosphere.

Ok, even I don't know what I mean by that. Other than I'm really really tired of him breaking his own arm patting himself on the back. Which he seems to do about 4 times a week lately.

see ya at Interbike?

No interbike for me. I am, how you say, monetarily challenged. Not to mention I'd probably get jumped by the Alienation guys.

please don't leave us

you are the last possible hope of bmx staying "straight"

worried about Alienation? if you read the BMX Museum forum you'll see that one of the guys from Dan's Competition says he's gonna "dip his knuckles in glue & glass" right before he meets me. haha...he later apologized for seeming like a tough guy.

Ditto on all the comments. Understandable that a man needs to take a little time away now and then. I like coming to a place and hear from others who are able to laugh at stupid shit, not hate on each other or other people collectively, still have fun riding a bike and not take things so seriously. I come to this site on a daily basis and it actually motivates me to ride. Most other bmx sites actually make me want to sell my bike, "grow up" and take up golf or something, because it's hard to see something that you love bastardized and critiqued on a daily basis by high-school dropouts with neck tattoos. Take your time but keep it alive.

Appreciate all the kind words. It won't be a long hiatus. And there's no way I'd let this thing die.

I meant what I said about you all, though. When I started this blog, I wasn't sure where it would go, and who would ever see it. I'm glad that it's sparked so much discussion, and hopefully it will continue to do so. And if it makes even one person at one company sit back and say "do we REALLY want to do this?," it'll all have been worthwhile.

Oh hell, it's all been worthwhile anyway.

And Todd, no, no fear of the Alienation guys (or R.L. Osborn). Just low on funds. I have every intention of going to Interbike next year, once I get my Taiwan catalog product line straight. Still working on a one-piece bike design that will shock the industry.

Take a day off and watch some Big Daddy and you'll feel fine.

Damn Russ, if I had a place for you to stay during interbike I would offer it up, you can always chance it and we can find you a place!

If taking a break means you will keep this blog going, im all for it...actually, shit, we all need to take 5 now and again, enjoy!

And yes, agreed, this blog makes me want to ride and not embarrassed to still ride, like some other sites that are "coming up".

despite all the dickheads i still reckon the dickhead:safe as fuck ratio is better in bmx than it is in the general population.

some comfort at least.

It's Friday and I'm going through withdrawal. I just argued with "Adam22" of TheComeUp for nearly a whole day out of shear boredom.
