You're On A Rocket Ride To A Suicide

Thank you, Superstar, for solving one of the biggest mysteries of our time—the difference between a new modern street frame and an ultra modern street frame:



I would have never figured it out otherwise. Darn new terminology. What I gather is this: The ultra modern frame has really short chainstays, an integrated seatpost clamp, fairly standard angles, and weighs less than five pounds. And while they say it's for pegless riders, they don't mean it. On the other hand, the new modern frame has really, really short chainstays, an integrated seatpost clamp, fairly standard angles (with the exception of a slightly lazy seattube), and weighs less than five pounds. And while they say it's "peg-compatible," they don't mean it. (Remember when the Metal Rebel Contender came out as a "pegless" frame and the thought was you could never run pegs on a sub-five frame? Uh-huh. Also, I feel like the Rebel Contender is sub-five pounds like Kevin Garnett is sub-seven feet. Ask someone if you have to.)

In related news, it seems that Superstar's motto of "Innovation, Technique, Simplicity." infringes on Standard's classic "Speed, Power, Technique." Sorry, but "Technique" belongs to Standard since they used it first—especially since it was already in a string of three words separated by commas. Not to mention I find it interesting that a company that installs integrated seatpost clamps in their toptubes has "Simplicity" as an identifying point at all. Maybe just cut it down to "Innovation." Although, hm, Standard has "innovation" in their header, and SE Racing has been using "BMX Innovations" since roughly 1975.

Hell guys, just start over.

Awwwww maaaaaan. Hating on Superstar is so wrong.

The clamp on the New Deal is terrible, and they can't speak English, but they still make laidback seatposts.

That makes up for everything.

(And their sprockets are awesome.)

so there was this one company....tree. they made handlebars that had thread in bar ends. unique/good idea to some. superstar wanted to copy it so bad they asked tree if they could, tree said..."um, well it is kinda our design, so we would rather you didnt"

but they said fuck it anyway and just ripped off a good idea that they didnt even have permission to use. that is almost as lame as people thinking superstar is cool.

I run big bars, no brakes and a slammed seat, on a WTP lo-fi. I have an integrated seat clamp and I like it. I don't find that it limits me in any way. I recently went on a 100 mile off road bike ride to raise some money for a charity set up by a friend of mine, my friends were on MTB's and I was the only one at the end of it without a sore arse.
I’m just wondering; when has a BMX been anything other that a fun bike, which is easy to do tricks on? It's not a couch! Maybe you're not into the aesthetics of a short seat tube, or a low seat, or big bars or whatever, but that's all it is, aesthetics; it's still a bike. a 1 degree steeper head angle, or a .5 inch shorter chainstay length won't change that.
Superstar, commencial and sunn bikes have always made good, innovative stuff. Their seatclamp may be weird, but it seems to work… I enjoy your blog and I think a lot of the things that you have to say are valid and relevant. I'm 25 and I've been in this game a while; there are plenty of companies that make crap BMX's, SE racing, Bully, Barracuda e.t.c., but I really don't understand some of the things that you complain about. Reputable companies make the odd genuinely shit part that they then try to sell us. Far be it for me to tell you what to write about, it’s your blog, but I’d stick to picking up on these.

what i find odd is that every newer (read as trendy) rider now apparently has the exact same style. look at a few old video clips and you'll see a lot of different set ups: big bars, small bars, higher seats, lower seats seats pointing up, some level, and the Miron Chicago bar preference. if some of you would break from the mold you might just become a better rider while utilizing your own preferences instead of setting up your bike the way Chase Hawk rides his. maybe just experimenting with a smaller bar or a higher seat...or heaven forbid you should put your brake back on and you might just find that your bike is more comfortable

or heaven forbid you should put your brake back on and you might just find that your bike is more comfortable Potentially the least thought out "Bah, new kids, grumble grumble" rant I've ever heard. It's not like being brakeless is anything new? People have been doing it for years now. Either way, it's still completely irrelevant to comfort?

dude, i just got a rebal , it dope, its funny you mention it in a story about ultra new street frames, i cant stand riding bikes like that, thats why i got a rebal, just a real bmx feel , classic angles, a dream ride, get wile they last....
