Fresh FitEd.

Well, according to the Fit site this is a web ad, so I guess I'm just helping spread the virus. Meet the first official mention of the Fited. LT. Lower. Lighter. Stronger. Sigh.

*cue "hey it's a signature frame what are you complaining about" comments*

It's kind of weird, though. The more frames Fit puts out, the more they become like each other. Lower, lighter, etc. Not so sure whether I buy the 'stronger' part. And another "traditional" double-diamond frame bites the big one.

BMX is reaching an intriguing point where the only people who will be able to afford new frames won't want to ride them. I know I'm just a crotchety old man and everything, but I don't think I'm the only person left who wants to be able to sit on their seat without having eight inches of seatpost showing. And with the ever-lowering toptubes and ever shortening-seatposts (see graph), we're kind of running out of options here. Looks like this old guy will be sticking with his old frame for the forseeable future—I suppose I'll have to make do with 5.5 pounds or whatever it is. Look, I'm all for making frames lighter, I'm just not sure whether it's worth changing dimensions to do so.

Eventually, BMX will be entirely overrun with nub seatposts and frames with enough standover height so dudes can successfully ride in skirts (you know it's coming) and seats themselves will pass on out of existence. Many years from now, there will be letters written to the BMXperts asking what the heck those padded butt antenna things were on people's bikes in old videos like Animal and Turbulence. Quite frankly, I'm Tierrafied.

(I really wanna get into this whole trend more, but I gotta run. Sorry!)

as much as i didnt like the fit ed's geometry when i rode it, i dont think its a good idea changing it to be just like all the others. unless thats what ed wanted right?

sprfls please start a bike company?

If that is genuinely what Ed wanted out of his signature frame then I have no problem with lowering the standover, but if it was done in an effort to sell more FitEds, then yawn. I agree with the comment about the changing style in frames and those that can afford to buy new ones. When I was younger I would drool over this or that frame and dreamed of the day I could buy just what I wanted. Now I can afford any frame on the market and I have to search for one that I really want. I feel like I should go out now and buy a bunch of first-gen Strickers and any existing Van frames just so I have something left to ride a few years from now.

It's just weird to me that in order to keep making frames lighter companies have to do stuff like squashing standover or cutting off the top of seattubes. I'm hoping the 21" still has 14" stays, although it would wind up looking like a taffy Eddie.

i think signature parts should be made to the exact specs that the name sake is using, not even a little differnt. i think you covered it with a Nathan Williams bar(?)...if this is what Ed wants and what Ed is riding then giddy up. and on a side note, nice Great Expectations tag. is that to indicate your expectations for the future of the BMX industry or am i reading too much into a casual reference?

I was just feeling literary today.

Ed's bike looks weird now, too. Obviously that's just an aesthetic judgement on my part, but it's all part of BMX, right?

i guess, at the end of the day, if a rider wants to get paid more they have to have a frame that kids wanna ride.

kids wanna ride trendy shit.

i wasn't quite sure about the 'BMX is reaching an intriguing point where the only people who will be able to afford new frames won't want to ride them' point.

surely it's not only the old washed up, jaded, salty bmxers who are keeping a job down right now in the states? surely those young trendy kids have parents who work sweet jobs too?

oh mannn

another day another fit / s&m gets lowered

so thats 7 fit frames plus two s&m's that are extremely similar angles and sizes

wtf !? so people who like low frames get 7 and people who like high frames get 2,

cheers then

Do you think it would be ok if I stripped the padding off of my butt antennae?

Your graph is floored how can seat posts be lower then seattubes?

Joe over at T1 emailed me this week and we chatted about how T1 will stand by their standards and not sell out to some of these trends, not to mention making frames that are different from each other, suiting various needs. There is a reason why I run T1.

And to answer that Gus, companies are now suggesting people cut off the tops of their seat tubes, so there you go.

I've been thinking about a new frame, a better frame, so like the bike nerd I am, I started comparing geometries. I wanted something with same angles (74.5ht, 71 st) and chainstay length (14") as what I was riding right now, but longer (than 20") . After a little comparing there are at least 6 frames for me to choose from, which didn't surprize me, since they all look the same. I think you are right about BMX going the way of skateboards, just different paint and graphics, but the same "shape".

it wont be long until frames are basically all the same and the only way to differentiate is by the stickers

bmx is the new skateboarding

No shit. What does that Moeller guy know anyway with his 20 years of business ownership experience? Come on, do it Russ. You are a moderator on a message board AND have your own blog. Moeller's done neither of these things.

Lazes around for a decade drinking coffee and spending other people's money traveling the world, NEVER gets insurance for riders, goes so far in debt partner bails, stops paying rider's salaries, gets stuff made in Taiwan. Continues to laze around and drink coffee.

not that the industry needs another company right now but what's your take one Mark Noble's DELUXE brand? i thought the frame seemed a bit on the retro side with the taller seat tube and whatnot. at least if you took the decals off you might think it was made a few years back.

Twisted sisters - Burn in hell (all those shitty frame)
i'm sure it's in the Little Devil Seek & Destroy but can't remember what part...

Deluxe is a trails specific company, and Mark Noble, to the best of anyone's knowledge, has never been recognized as a trail's rider in any way shape or form.
