Splinter Cell

One of the things I missed during my long, self-imposed hiatus was the formation of Cult (or Fit II: The New Beginning). Best I can tell, after a decade or so of quiet growth, Fit abruptly divided in two, leaving both the original Fit, mostly unchanged, and Cult. For those of you with a science background (as in, you didn't sleep through ALL of middle school biology), you would recognize this as simple binary fission, as illustrated below:

(Feel free to ignore the complicated words, and please don't try and figure out which of those weird tangled spaghetti-like strands is Robbie Morales.)

Now, just because it took a decade or so for Fit to divide doesn't mean it will be another decade before it divides again. And remember that the newly produced cell divides as well, so the expansion is geometric -- 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, and so on. Before you know it, there will be more frame companies than there are people on Earth, and eventually BMX frame companies will be the most plentiful element in the universe.

Only you can prevent forest fires.

Kind of a lame post, IMHO. Nothing to talk about?

we're moving to that time at a pretty quick pace. from a selection point of view it's an awesome time to be a rider but from an inventory stance it's tougher every week to be a good shop.

Dont have a problem with new companies (rider owned) popping up but when there "new" frame is just another low slung basic double diamond affair i do just think whats the point!? Luckily we still have companies like T1, FBM, Solid and SBC that offer (as well as the mentioned above style frames) something different and the choice to have your own design built.

Now I get it.

Pretty much a case of the "I'm taking my toys and going home" scenario. Except the toys were the best riders on Fit, and home was a few miles west in a small warehouse in Santa Ana. And I'm sure at some point the phrase "come'on Neil we're leaving" was said as well.

Interestingly enough, I am in the cellular reproduction phase in my college biology class.

So it is safe to say at this point that BMX is in a hypotonic solution and will swell and burst at some point, with the proliferation of frame companies representing the solutes?

Remember when we had too many t-shirt companies?

I blame Taiwan.

Stephen, Taiwan isn't making the frames then offering them up for sale, they're just making what they are getting order for. it's like blaming your dog for getting fat; it doesn't fill it's bowl too often, it is obviously going to take what's offered so if nothing is put in front of it then it can't react

Todd, I was sort of kidding, but we could extrapolate it out this way...

McDonalds makes cheap, easily accessible food that has had a hand in making Americans fat. Now, is it McDonalds fault that we have a nation full of fat retards? I mean, sure, we have a choice to not eat there, but it is just so easy to drive through...and they take debit cards now!

I guess what I am saying is...I don't really blame Taiwan.

Stephan, i assumed you were kidding and you're McDonalds analogy is valid...i just like to look for reasons to mock people that bitch about stuff that they have the ability to control but choose not to (like a McDonalds drive thru or giving their dogs too much food) no harm done.

i think cult is a good thing..and if you would actually compare the two you would kinda notice that, exept for the fact that they are both bike companies, they have nothing in common.
i mean if someone decides to start their own bike co they just havve to work on an image, its not like you can invent the bike again. and in the end the image is the only difference between one co and another.
(i mean close to every bike co has the same fucking geo and shit, so youre buying more image than frame.. id rather buy a subrosa over a felt anyday... but it is and will always be the same frame)

Taiwan doesn't have any Empire crown-stamped down tube gussets, therefore, fuck Taiwan. Moeller gets my money!
