Savage Seduction

That's the problem with redecorating in white—you never want to put that first smudge on it. Of course, once you do, it only gets easier. Can't live your life with a layer of clear plastic over it. That's not living, unless you're a tray chicken parts. In which case you're not alive anyway. Um, yeah.

(In a similar vein, can anyone explain to me why people drive with "bras" on their cars? Yes, you're keeping the front end from getting chipped. I understand that. But for what? You never take the damn thing off anyway! OK, sorry.)

Sometimes a product comes out that I don't even have to write about. Just posting an image seems like enough, words would just be redundant. Like these:

Animal's new MK3 pegs are the "1st color chromoly peg in the market. This is a new special paint process which does not affect grinding performance." Do I even need to say anything?

(OK, I will say this. Is it reaching a point where there needs to be a new Animal? By that I mean, is there room for a new "street" oriented company that just makes basic no-frills parts in black and black only? Isn't there still a market for that sort of thing? Seems to me that BMX is reaching that same oversaturation point it did in the late '80s, where everything was available in every conceivable color and everything was great until half the companies went broke. Doing all sorts of colors is awesome, except for when kids change their mind about which colors are cool. We'll see, I guess. At least the chrome Bobs are cool.)

Best Interbike preview ever?

Meh. You just overrated Animal before.

Animal used to represent a good balance of "we are so street the only color you need is black," but ever since colored everything has come back into play, they've had to change their ways and join the club.

As for the FBM advert; I fucking love the Maine-iac.

I still really want the red pegs even if they aren't completely 'street.' All red and black will look sweet when I finally reach that point.

I could do the same thing with spraypaint and black pegs, but why not buy ones that are already red when I'm in the market for pegs anyways?

the wave has crested my friend.

the market is more saturated than it was in the 80's. the good part is that there is a viable element to the sport, TV contracts, the olympics, non-industry specific sponsors... this gives me hope that those appear committed now will continue that commitment during a slow down.

the part to worry about is number of headtubes shearing off and shit just breaking a part left and right. this can only create a distaste for some of these companies who are spec'ing at a price point overseas. There is little to no quality control pre production, you just dont have a choice as a company doing small numbers. I think if there is a rider backlash, the smaller companies are going to take the hit and may not survive. It is going to be a hard sell to a repeat customer who has had their headtube shear off to try to convince them to buy another one of the same company's frame that is no better than the one they just destroyed.

these smaller companies need to develop a domestic option, a high-end, domestically produced product as a 2nd or third frame to build on that initial purchase. if this is not done, they will not survive. that is the legacy of the late 80's early 90's. we need to learn from it.

Why does Sean Murphy think he knows what the fuck he's talking about? Where are these headtubes shearing off in epidemic proportions and parts failing miserably every time someone rides their bike?

You have always been a thick necked, jock flinching goon.

Why do I think I know what I am talking about? I am interested to hear what a random person on the Internet thinks. But, to be clear, no matter what you post, I will not respond until I can verify you are who you say you are. Do your worst you guttless fuck, it's obvious I already own you, let's tell everyone why.

Go.

Gucci,

The line to buy those shirts would be around the corner, both my wives would be all up in that. Everyone has to be something, as long as Im not Anonymous, I'm can live with it.

those pegs are like having white tires on an off-road vehicle.

for real though, what is "street" anymore? The days of all black are long gone. 12yr old kids wearing chick pants who are inspired by Garrett Reynolds are the cash cows for the industry right now. Unfortunately not many of these girl-boys who ride street even know who Troy McMurray is. If you want something with hairy balls that listens to Slayer and has said "none more black" before, ride Metal or FBM parts and bikes and consider all the rest the equivalent of the Jonas Brothers ®.

am surprised you haven't talked about the fit 'signature' completes yet russ, would enjoy hearing your opinion on those!

agreed on animal though, liking them less over time sadly, used to be easily my favourite bmx company.

SeanMurphy...

I would say that developing a domestic high end option is definitely not the way to go.

I'd say the best way to stay on top of things would be to have really good quality control over a product manufactured offshore. It works in loads of other industries, but it takes more investment than just sending a drawing to Taiwan and hoping for the best. You either go over there ALOT or have someone living over there.

Then you'll have good product that blows away all the "high end domestic" shit for price.

Murphy:cool you take my comment with a smile on,you just turned four stars rated.

RUss:what about the TREE hub and ANIMAL headsets?

ps:Murphy...gutless fucks...would be such a cool name for a band..

Just what is ED black, anyway? No obvious Edwin Delarosa jokes, please. RP means rustproofing black, right? So what is ED? Ask your bike dealer about Cialis? Huh?

People who keep "bras" and rear bumper "parking guards" on their cars all the time—protecting something that you never see because they keep it covered—are probably leasing the vehicles.

Anonymous said...

Todd from Albes is gonna have a field day on this subject

Anonymous said...

Those car-bras actually damage the paint from constant friction on the paint.

Guav said...

I believe it ... but if you live in the city and park on the street, everyone bumps you and nudges you when parking and it fucks it up way worse.

abamosh said...

Clear bras are the hot new craze. They put a clear layer of plastic over the front that provides protection without looking dumb

Guav said...

I wish women would utilize that technology for their bras. And shirts.

Just like those veggy PETA treehugging all dovey dovey GAY.

People may not be shearing off their headtubes in swine flu proportions, but people DO crack theor headtubes at an alrming rate.

In under six months I already witnessed SIX frames failed under the downtube, in varying degrees of failure most of them well under 6 months. And these are all sub 5 pound frames.

Those are the ones that I know of.

Kinda funny my word verification is 'solve'

Standard is ridiculous. Do you write this drivel Sean Murphy?

"The Standard Byke Company Box Set is coming Soon.

The long awaited release of the entire catalog of videos that have defined, dominated and changed the industry since 1991. From the Roger’s Garage beginnings through the 90’s and up to the present, SBC has led the way in BMX videos and the release of “…’til the package is gone” will redefine all the things you thought you knew about the SBC era.

Remastered, touched up and edited, this will not be the same old rehashed content. Extras and additional never before seen footage will make “…’til the package is gone” the most anticipated video in the industry.

Stay tuned and enjoy the teasers."

Here's what I'd like to see roasted:
Fly's new removable brake system
Odyssey's version of Tree's spline drive
Alienation's Pivotal slider
Maybe something about how the female axle is the new male axle

i dont care if people ride with colored pegs (that will probably turn into scratched up silver pegs in 10 minutes of using them).

it doesnt really effect my life in any way.

A few of the SPRFLS products that should be put in this blog.

1. Fly Spanish Brake System - Stress concentration and notch factors with the redundancy of a product solely catered to riders with a wishy washy state of mind and a regretfully mechanically incompetent capacity.

2. Tree spline drive - wobble wobble wobble Ok let's use a gigaton of hydraulic press and put some overmachined overpriced steel insert to an interfce that's going to have the tolerance fit of that of a tramp's pussy.

3. Frames with 'Internal gussets' - People who didn't take a basic cursory look into ANY engineering book AND use their basic common sense.

Tree Spline Drive has worked flawlessly for me since second 1.

tree spline drive working perfectly ovewr here too...

What about the Macneil "trails" only hub? or their snubbed seat post.

Grimace said...

I'm not a BMX historian or anything but animal has had like 10 color choices for thier barends, stems and pedals for about 3 years. This is nothing new.

Anonymous said...

my tree spline is about two years deep and still perfect.

Maurice Snail said...

I think Space Bagel dude wasn't implying about the tree spline sprocket itself. It's the about the crank interface on 48 spline cranks.

If you people haven't figured that one yet then you people are a bunch of idiots.

"Wobble wobble" as in Profile wobble.

The moment you remove your 48 splined cranks and put them on again there is a highly likely it's not going fit as 'tightly as before.

Go to your bikeshop and take a digital caliper and measure the adjacent splines on the crank arms of 48 splines for yourself.

I'm pretty sure you guys would be surprised.

^^^^

I meant to say opposite splines.

having never cracked a frame on the chainstay cant say it bother me that much. sure it will undoubtedly be weaker, but every frame i have ever cacked/snapped has done so up front. purely anecdotal i know, but you cant tell me lossing your front wheel on landing isnt scarier than losing your back wheel.

dont really know what im saying, I thought it was a good idea. for the most part im brakeless but i dont want to be limited in case we have a (rare) trails day. convenience is nice. wouldnt buy fly cos of it, but it certainly would affect decision.

Matthew said...

The new animal pegs look like nice pegs, not into the colors though, chrome bobs needed to happen and I'm glad I now own a pair, reminds me of older scerbo and Dave young. Tree spline drive is one of the best things since internal headsets , odyssey cashin on it, sounds gay.

The only Colors available should be black, silver and chrome.
