The Homan Empire

I feel like I'm really late with this—it's probably already been posted on multiple sites and been the top link on BMXfeed—but how can I not post it here?

As you may or may not know, Van placed third in X Games street this weekend, beaten out by two kids who probably grew up with his RIDE covers hanging on their walls and his Little Devil parts playing on their TVs. Van's amongst that last generation of riders who threw down monster bangers on 44/16-equipped tanks and, yes, learned how to bunnyhop before they learned how to tailwhip. Unlike most of his peers, who are either running bike companies or frontloaders these days, he's still beating the little whippersnappers who learned by watching him. Kind of like LL Cool J and Canibus.

Van used to have a signature frame through Fit, but it got discontinued because it was far too awesome for mere mortals to comprehend. Plus, it weighed like six pounds.

Luckily Van is smart enough to sell 25/9 super-light bikes in his shop or he'd be broke and living with mom and dad too.

You can make a lot of money selling heroin, too. Doesn't mean I'd do it.

Yep, went there.

Fuck I would kill for a Mean Street! And some Neutrons. I have been thinking a lot about this recently too. Criminal Mischief was nearly 10 years ago. I think the best video of all time and this guys parts are still fucking crazy since then. That's not really seen in BMX

BMX needs more satire like that, way way more. It’s in Mai Ling child welder school of BMX satire.

Verification word - expro - Coincidence? I think not!

Dude Russ, you used to sell heroin? Seriously? That's pretty bleak man.

I used to race against Van at nationals in the early 90's. I pulled out that card watching the x-games... no one was impressed. My Fiancee said "were you better than him!?" ...no, i was not :(

*head hung in shame*

I dunno, I think this post was worth it for the title alone, had me laughing for a minute.

Odd how much the Van and the NG Dirt Bikes look so similar eh?!? hmmmmm

Proud to say that the Ride cover you posted was my first issue you ever. Happy that it got me started on the right foot: Van Homan, Giant Taj and Joe Poster, and an Austin scene report.

"Everyone who started riding BMX post 1998 please leave the room"

Awesome, simply awesome.

I don't think i've laughed that much for a while.

Van Homan will forever be a legend, I would rather watch his section any time over any given section now a days.

Leland, apparently you've never seen Rooftop's part in Dirt Deeds.

If only they had run a spellcheck...

Dunno, good satire should probably have correct grammer
